Amilcare Ponchielli - Concerto per Flicornobasso op. 155 arr. Howey

Justin Weis, Euphonium

University of Memphis Wind Ensemble

One of the great standards of the euphonium repertoire and considered the first euphonium solo (originally written for flicornobasso, an Italian bass flugelhorn), Ponchielli shows his operatic tendencies with this theme and variations where the first variation occurs before the statement of the theme! After the theme there are three variations that each increase in tempo, followed by a finale in the key of Eb.
